The mind is a wonderful thing

Before I begin, a quick reminder for myself:

In fact, although the differences are sometimes subtle, each is created for a different purpose: a charm is worn to attract good luck; an amulet provides protection from danger; and a talisman is used to attract a particular benefit to its owner.

Richard Webster

There I was this morning: making myself and amulet and thinking of all the things I wanted it to protect me from, when I suddenly realize I was singing “Hammertime” to myself.

Harm won’t be able to touch me.

Super moon chores

I don’t usually do anything during full moons: I find them exhausting. I’m pretty sure I accidentally set myself up as an automatic battery for my wards when I first set them up during a full moon. On the bright side: at least I don’t have to remind myself to reset my wards, because I’m sure I’d forget and they wouldn’t get done.

But this full moon I had acquired some new tarot decks and stone beads for intention bracelets in the past month, so I set those on the windowsill before bed.

And then an opossum snuck into my house through the pet door to snack on the cat’s kibble at 2am. This is the first opossum I’ve seen in my life. and it just looked really put upon by the dog barking in its face while it chilled in a corner of the living room—but the poor thing shook like a leaf when the cat tried to take a sniff.

So I wrangled the pets behind closed doors and shepherded our visitor back outside, where I watched him waddle in the moonlight towards the shadows.

Introductions

Welcome to The Lodestar.

I have been instructed by my deity to Get To Work.

I brainstormed how I could best be of service, and decided on this website. This way I can help the best way I know how: by listening, offering advice when asked, and sharing my knowledge with others. Additionally, it offers us flexibility so the space can evolve and adapt to the community’s needs.

Why The Lodestar? Why not name the website after yourself?

Well, first of all, I believe I can best be of service through holding space for others. It’s not about me. Additionally, the way I self-identify both personally and online tends to change. I do not like chaining myself to one avatar. Therefore, I prefer the space to be the constant: this way I can (and will) continue to evolve and adjust to what resonates best with myself without confusing or losing you.

Ok, then why The Lodestar specifically?

A lodestar is a guiding star, used in navigation. But it is also a reference to The Star card in tarot: a card of healing.

In my practice, personal, and work life I identify best as a healer: I am the one people go to for an empathetic ear, advice, and guidance. My default setting is to help. Makes sense that the space I choose to hold online to help others navigate their own paths should be called The Lodestar.

Ok, so then why is the website numinousguidance and not thelodestar?

Well, because that is why the website exists and what it provides:

numinous (magical) guidance.

I have been spiritually guided to create it, and the reason for it is to offer magical guidance for others.

Additionally, there are many domains and service providers who also use some for or star or lodestar in their name, and I wanted to avoid confusion with the address.
